Grounding: the benefits

Grounding: the benefits

A lot of us don't realise that we are in fact not grounded.

There is so much going on up in our heads that it gets cloudy and we have not idea that we could balance this energy out by in fact grounding ourselves.

What is being grounded?

It is being fully present in your body or feeling connected to the earth.

You are ungrounded if you:

  • Get distracted easily
  • Space out
  • Over-think or ruminate
  • Engage in personal drama
  • Experience anxiety and perpetual worrying

You are also ungrounded if you are:

  • Possessed by desire for material things
  • Easily deceived by yourself or others
  • Obsessed with your personal image

Physical signs of being ungrounded include:

  • Inflammation
  • Poor sleep
  • Chronic pain
  • Fatigue
  • Poor circulation

Being ungrounded is a worldwide epidemic. This epidemic is so entrenched few of us even recognize the problem.

Being ungrounded is the root cause of a great deal of human suffering.

How do we ground our energy????

There are lots of different ways that we can ground our energy. First and most important one is to get outside into nature.

Spend time breathing in the fresh air. Place your feet on the earth. Have the wind blow against your face and the sun warm your skin. Listen to the birds sing their songs and take in the trees and plants around you.

Get out in Nature:

One thing I suggest to people is to take off your shoes and plant them on mama earth and feel her energy come up through your feet. Spend time really feeling the vibrations from her. Take in all her beauty. Feel the energy within yourself and connect to the earth. Feel the energy within you pulling you back to earth so to speak. Feeling it anchoring you. Supporting you.

Breathe:

Take time to just breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Just focusing on the air flowing through your nostrils and down into your body. Noticing the way you body moves as it does so and then feeling the air as you exhale. Noticing the different temperatures as it goes in and out.

Repeating over and over until you feel more relaxed and balanced.

Think about it when you are stressed out what is one of the first things you do??

We take a huge sigh in. Our bodies automatically know what to do. So whether or not you need to make a conscious effort to breathe.. Breathe right in filling up the abdomen. Holding then let all of the air out slowly until there is no more. Repeat. This will help to calm you and get you out of the space of confusion, overwhelm, frustration, heightened state and help you to relax and ground down your energy.

Meditation:

I suggest meditation for most things because it is a space for you to get quiet. To shut down the noise and to be present in the moment. To feel into your body.

One of the meditations I like to lead for grounding is one below

Sitting up straight making sure that you are comfortable close down your eyes and connect to your breath. Feeling the rise and fall of your body as you breathe in and exhale out....

Taking deeper breaths breathing right down into your feet and exhaling out through the crown of your head.

Visualise or feel a beautiful ray of light that is coming from source. All the way down into the top of your head (crown chakra) Feeling it lighting up each of the chakras on the way down through your spine. The Crown, the third eye (between your eyebrows) the throat chakra, the heart, the solar plexus (abdomen above the belly button) the sacral chakra (below the belly button in the womb space) the root chakra (at the base of your spine) Feeling this continue down your legs and then moving through you into the earths crust. Penetrating all the way down to the earths core energy. Feeling it still connected to you as you breathe. When you feel as if this energy (light ) is connected to the earth energy imagine that it turns the light (what ever colour you had imagined it as ) to a red glow and see or feel that then start to work its way back up through the earth back into your body, up each chakra to your crown and back to the source of the universe above. Feeling yourself strong, supported, safe, held and connected to source energy above and below. Feeling centred and balanced.

Take a few deep breaths in and out focusing on how you feel in your body.

And when you are ready you can open your eyes.

Meditation is the gateway to a energy and tapping in. Opening yourself and expanding.

Take a cold shower

Cold exposure is known to increase immunity, decrease fat and boost your mood. Having a cold shower or even turning off the hot water at the end of your shower for a few second is going to have great benefits. Great for those with high blood pressure.

(this one I need to work on) Brrrrr

Hug a tree.

Plain and simple. Get out and feel the energy of a tree. Putting your hands on the trunk, feeling the leaves or buds or branches. They have a energy that can not be ignored. Take a few minutes to sense this energy and give that tree a big ol hug. It will honestly make you feel so good.

Earthing

Very much like I described earlier about getting out in nature. Earthing is connecting to earth. Placing your body on Gaia. (skin to skin)  Going barefoot and standing on the grass or a rock or on the dirt or sand or in a natural body of water. Even lying down and rolling around the way cats and dogs do. have you ever seen them do that?

They are re energising by connecting to the earths energy.

We too can do this.

For healing, the researchers behind the Earthing movement recommend staying barefoot on the Earth for at least 20 minutes, twice a day.- scottjeffery.com
